Joe Cunningham of the U.S. Navy's National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office in Suitland, MD, briefs participants during a table top exercise held in April in the Republic of Georgia. The exercise was attended by over 30 international participants from 15 agencies.

Participants from 15 agencies take part in facilitated discussions exploring information sharing considerations as well as response actions to identify, prevent, and respond to a variety of maritime threats. U.S. Navy’s NMIO in partnership with U.S. Embassy Tbilisi and the Global MOTR Coordination Center, conducted this exercise with the Republic of Georgia in April.

The National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO, in partnership with the Georgian Joint Maritime Operations Center (JMOC), the U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, the U.S. Department of State's Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program,
the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Global MOTR Coordination Center, facilitated a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) that seeks to strengthen the capacity and capability of JMOC to counter the array of maritime challenges. We collaboratively explored best practices for exchanging information and potential actions by JMOC to build a networked approach
to identify. prevent, and respond. The TTX further explored information sharing considerations as well as response actions primarily through facilitated discussions surrounding scenarios. Substantive areas include the response to mines, sanctions enforcement, malicious cyber activities, and maritime domain awareness.

Through discussions and presentations, participants are encouraged to identify gaps
and potential solutions to more effectively counter information sharing and enforcement challenges.

The exercise was attended by over 30 participants from 15 agencies including the Georgian Coast Guard, Customs, Border police, Maritime Transportation Agency, and Ministry of Defense.

On 27 March 2024, RADM Mike Brookes, Director NMIO, addressed 800+ Department of Homeland Security-recognized fusion center participants at the National Fusion Center Association (NFCA) Annual Training Event in Washington D.C. His comments focused on Maritime Domain Awareness and maritime security. RADM Brookes also presented an award to Ms. Hilary Martinez from the Texas Department of Public Safety for her support to the NFCA Maritime Subcommittee.

The National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO) provides a national-level service to improve Global Maritime Community of Interest (GMCOI*) policy, increase data collection, broaden information sharing, enhance organizational
and analytic integration, and advance technology improvements for national-level priorities against threats to, from, and
in the global maritime domain.***

Responsibilities. As a Service of Common Concern (SoCC) NMIO is responsible for coordinating maritime information sharing and intelligence integration throughout the GMCOI and implementing the National Strategy for Maritime Security and its supporting
plans. Another responsibility is the Chair and Executive Secretariat for the Maritime Domain Awareness Executive Steering
Committee (MDA ESC) in support of the National Security Council, Maritime Security Interagency Policy Committee. NMIO enhances
GMCOI capability and capacity through five strategic mission integration tasks; NMIO does not conduct collection or perform analysis.

The mission of the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO) is to advance maritime intelligence integration, information sharing, and domain awareness to foster unity of effort to protect the United States and its global interests, its allies, and its partners against threats to, in, or emanating from the global maritime domain.
