Canada–United States Maritime Domain Awareness Partnership

The Canada–United States (CANUS) Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Partnership is a bilateral relationship dedicated to enhancing whole-of-governments maritime intelligence and information sharing to support the spirit of the Beyond the Border agreement between Canada and the United States. The partnership is cochaired by the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (representing the Maritime Domain Awareness Executive Steering Committee) and Transport Canada (representing the Interdepartmental Marine Security Working Group).

The partnership provides a framework to build and maintain daily, habitual, persistent, and consistent whole-of-governments relationships between MDA stakeholders and agencies in Canada and the United States. Furthermore, the partnership achieves shared situational awareness, effective and timely intelligence and information sharing, and a common understanding of the North American maritime environment.

The mission of the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO) is to advance maritime intelligence integration, information sharing, and domain awareness to foster unity of effort to protect the United States and its global interests, its allies, and its partners against threats to, in, or emanating from the global maritime domain.
